Tracker Secrets: Adding a Story to an epic

Four ways (that I know of, but there maybe more) to add a story to an epic: 1) Add the epic label to the story. (Got to go to with the easy one first, right?) 2) Be on the specific epic panel (by clicking the > on the individual epic) and click “+” on the top right.

What have we done? Pivotal Tracker Knows

Today, I took over a project from another product manager. I wanted to see all of the features that had previously been delivered.

In the past, I’ve opened the “Done” tab, expanded all of the past iterations, and read the story titles in the mix of bugs, chores and more.

Sprint vs. Iteration

At Pivotal we have a weekly Iteration Planning Meeting, or IPM for short.

Often when I explain what happens in this meeting, I say “It’s our version of a sprint planning meeting.”

I’ve also been known to say, “Iteration or sprint, you know, they’re pretty much the same thing.”

Don't jump to a solution (IRL)

Below is a real life example of why you should talk about the problem, not your proposed solution.

Last week, my friend Jay texted and asked me if I was going to be around Saturday afternoon. I could have simply replied “Nope” and ended the conversation there, I was going to be out of town after all.

The importance of the TIMELY follow-up

Last week at the Women2.0 City Meetup in NYC, I asked Fran Hauser a question:

What was the worst thing that a startup could do when working with her?

Fran thought about it for a second, and replied:

Not follow-up.

She went on to talk about how if someone is supposed to send her something after they meet, that forgetting to is not going to help build the relationship.

My PM Origin Story

This past week, I was asked to write up my career journey for Inventing Heron, which aims to inspire people to find their ideal career. It was not the first time I’d been asked how I became a Product Manager for Pivotal, but it was the first time I’d written down my story.

Demo This! How to ROCK your product demo

In June, I was honored to be a guest instructor for the NYC Big Apps participants.

I chose to speak about something I’m very passionate about, best practices in giving a product demo. Too often, I watch people who have invested countless hours building something great, and they are unable to demo it in a way that resonates with users, customers, or investors.
