Decoding XML serialized .NET usersettings strings

I forgot my password. A .NET app I'm using is remembering it. I got hold of the settings xml file. The password is hidden in a super duper long string under a setting node like

<setting name="volumes" serializeAs="String">
<value>big-string</value>
</setting>

I don't have access to the source code of the app producing the file. But it looks like that's a standard built-in app settings format for .NET apps.
any idea how I can decode that?
